This is an American story of a Black man of the racially turbulent Civil Rights '60s who willed himself into a hidden industry that didn’t expect a Black person to be qualified or succeed.
Once he broke through barriers into the advertising business, he opened doors for other minorities and launched the first Basic Advertising Course in Chicago in 1967.
This extraordinary group of students created advertising campaigns that became part of the shared American culture and helped shape the times.
“By the year 2020 there will be 1.4 million job openings in advertising, marketing, and media. Not only do we need to prepare people to be aware of those jobs, we need to ensure that these jobs are filled by qualified minority professionals. But at our current rate of hiring, it will be 2079 before the industry reflects the population of the country,”
"Our goal is to entertain and inform people about the influence of my father, a diversity trailblazer, who led a group of Chicago ad men and women to change the face of advertising personnell. Our documentary will entertain while informing viewers on the history and opportunities in this most culturally influential industry. "
